When we are faced with a real or perceived threat, we trigger our biological, internal alarm system. This system can protect us from harm and motivate us to action.
In stressful situations, feelings of uneasiness, fear, and dread can be a natural reaction. You may feel restless, tense, an increased heart rate, sweaty, butterflies in your stomach, or a heaviness in your chest.
However, when we have these feelings in everyday, normal situations, this is when anxiety can become a problem. When our perception of a situation is seen as larger than our perception of the available resources we have to manage it, our anxiety increases. Sometimes to levels that interfere with our lives and create a constant feeling of worry and unease. This is not a comfortable place to be. So, let's figure out together how to do things differently.
